CYC is excited to continue our long tradition of youth sailing camp this summer and in future summers.
The Colington Yacht Club (“CYC”) is sponsoring a youth sailing camp from August 21-25 run by Hatteras Community Sailing (“HCS”). The camp will take place in Colington Harbour. HCS is a 501c3 non-profit . Meg Phillips is the program director, and Jay Phillips is the Chairman of the community sailing program on Hatteras in Buxton. Jay and Meg are both US Sailing Certified Level 1 sailing instructors and have years of sailing experience spanning the breadth of the sport including ocean racing, yacht deliveries, teaching all levels of sailing, sail making, sailboat design and building.
HCS coaches will supply 2 Coaching RIBs, 2 Certified Head Coaches, a minimum of 1 Jr Coaches per class. Camp will be a fun variety of activities including sailing, water safety, fun on the water, basic boat handling, capsize/recovery, basic points of sail, knowledge of sailboat racing, and wind awareness. Youth will spend as much time as possible on the water in Colington Harbour learning to sail. This is a beginner’s camp and no previous experience is required, but campers need to know how to swim. The cost of the program is $300 per sailor. Some scholarships will be available.
